The idea for Card Guy was born in the middle of the current pandemic as my previous line of work dried up leaving me twiddling my thumbs on what to do next in order to pass the time.

I have always been drawn to anything and everything vintage, having that nostalgic feeling and reminders of my childhood. The card side of it comes from one of my fondest memories of opening up and trading Pokemon cards on the school playground, that feeling of being invincible holding a bit of bent and battered cardboard in my hand. This feeling is one I cherish and love to revisit every time I see an old collection or open up a pack of cards.

How it works

Do you have an old collection of trading or sports cards that you used to collect back in the day and no longer have any use for and would like some instant cash ready for the Christmas period?

I can arrange a viewing on your doorstep or in my shop in Torbay at a time that works for you. I will evaluate your cards and offer you a price, there and then. No strings attached. It doesn’t matter how small, old or what condition the cards are in!

Business Model

My business model is simple. I work on a 30% margin. Meaning if your card collection is was worth £500 id offer you £350 for the collection. This is done comparing the current prices on Ebay sold listings. Please note this is not the price the card is listed as its what the card actually has sold for.

A common misconception is that your childhood card collection is in perfect condition and is worth thousands of pounds when actually it breaks down into two components.

How old is the card? If you are sat on a collection from your childhood then its properly old!

What condition is the cards in? This is more important than how old the card is. The same card could be worth £20 or £200 if not more depending on its condition. If you notice a crease or large amount of whitening around the edge of your cards they are in played condition. If you cannot see anything wrong with the cards then they are closer to Mint condition. This is done on a grading system of 1-10.

I then sell the cards individually on Ebay or through social media, full transparency throughout. You can even see how much I sell them for.

REPUTATION

My reputation is everything! I’ve brought over 300 collections ranging from a couple of cards, up to massive collections. I will offer you a fair solid price based on the current market value there and then.

I currently only specialise in Pokemon cards but will take a look at any collection.

I currently operate across the whole of the South West.
